Documented Farman — Sultan Muhammad Shah (Aga Khan III)
“What are ḥaqīqah (truth) and sharīʿah (muslim way of life)? They are two separate things. “This” (sharīʿah) and “that” (ḥaqīqah) will never become one; they will never be united. “This” seeks the Quran, fasting, prayer, and ritual devotion. “That” seeks liberation. These are two distinct matters, and their modes of thought are different. For us, this requires great effort. How can “this,” rooted in ignorance, be satisfied? It does not grasp ḥaqīqah; it does not desire ḥaqīqah. Those who are ignorant abandon ḥaqīqah. But those who are truly of ḥaqīqah walk upon a different path.”
حقیقت اور شریعت کیا ہے؟ یہ دو الگ باتیں ہیں۔ "یہ" اور "وہ" کبھی بھی ایک ہونے والے نہیں۔ کبھی بھی ایک نہیں ہوںگے۔ "یہ" کتاب، روزہ، نماز اور بندگی کو چاہتا ہے۔ "وہ" آزادی کی امید رکھتا ہے۔ یہ دو (الگ) باتیں ہیں۔ دونوں کے خیالات مختلف ہیں۔ ہمارے لئے بہت محنت ہے۔ "یہ" بے علمی کیسے راضی ہو؟ "یہ" حقیقت کو پکڑتا نہیں۔ اسکو حقیقت نہیں چاہیئے۔ جو بے علم ہیں، وہ حقیقت کو چھوڑ دیتے ہیں۔ لیکن جو حقیقی ہیں، وہ دوسرے راستے پر چلتے ہیں۔
Ḥaqīqat aur sharī’at kyā hai? Yeh do alag bātein hain. "Yeh" aur "woh" kabhī bhī ek hone wāle nahīṅ. Kabhī bhī ek nahīṅ hoṅge. "Yeh" kitāb, rozah, namāz aur bandagī ko chāhtā hai. "Woh" āzādī kī umīd rakhtā hai. Yeh do (alag) bātein hain. Donoṅ ke khayālāt mukhtalif hain. Hamāre liye bahut meḥnat hai. "Yeh" be-‘ilmī kaise rāẓī ho? "Yeh" ḥaqīqat ko pakaṛtā nahīṅ. Usko ḥaqīqat nahīṅ chāhiye. Jo be-‘ilm hain, woh ḥaqīqat ko chhoṛ dete hain. Lekin jo ḥaqīqī hain, woh dūsre rāste par chalte hain.
