Documented Farman — Sultan Muhammad Shah (Aga Khan III)
“We see that some people, after rejecting our religion, become Ithnā ʿAsharī, Sunnī, or Christians. This does not surprise us, because they themselves are ignorant.
For a person without intellect, the true religion is extremely difficult. For one devoid of reason, our religion is extremely difficult. If such a person turns away, we are not astonished, because this religion is very severe.
A human being whose intellect is weak is corrupt. He runs after what is Haram (forbidden).
But the one who is intelligent and wise will say: this path is good. He will reflect upon it and then walk upon it. The intelligent person will say: my desire is for freedom. I pursue freedom; I will run after it, and I will seek it out.”
ہم دیکھتے ہیں کہ ہمارے دین سے منکر ہوکر، کوئی اثنا عشری، سنی اور نصاریٰ بن جاتے ہیں۔ اس سے ہمیں تعجب نہیں ہوتا۔ کیونکہ وہ خود بے علم ہیں۔ بے عقل آدمی کے لئے حقیقی دین انتہائی مشکل ہے۔ بے عقل کے لئے ہمارا دین انتہائی مشکل ہے۔ بے عقل پھر جائے، اس سے ہمیں حیرت نہیں ہوتی، کیونکہ یہ دین بہت سخت ہے۔ جو انسان ضعیف العقل ہے، وہ خراب ہے۔ وہ حرام کے پیچھے دوڑتا ہے۔ لیکن جو دانا عقلمند ہوگا، وہ کہے گا کہ یہ راستہ اچھا ہے۔ وہ اس پر غور کرکے چلے گا۔ عقلمند کہے گا کہ میری آرزو آزادی کی ہے۔ میں آزادی کے پیچھے دوڑتا ہوں، میں دوڑوں گا، اور ڈھونڈھوں گا۔
Ham dekhte hain keh hamāre dīn se munkar hokar, koī Ithnā ‘Asharī, Sunnī aur Naṣārā ban jāte hain. Is se hamein ta’ajjub nahīṅ hotā. Kyoṅkeh woh khud be-‘ilm hain. Be-‘aql ādmī ke liye ḥaqīqī dīn intihā’ī mushkil hai. Be-‘aql ke liye hamārā dīn intihā’ī mushkil hai. Be-‘aql phir jā’e, is se hamein ḥairat nahīṅ hotī, kyoṅkeh yeh dīn bahut sakht hai. Jo insān ẓa’īf al-‘aql hai, woh kharāb hai. Woh ḥarām ke pīchhe dauṛtā hai. Lekin jo dānā ‘aqlmand hogā, woh kahe gā keh yeh rāstah achhā hai. Woh is par ghaur karke chale gā. ‘Aqlmand kahe gā keh merī ārzū āzādī kī hai. Maiṅ āzādī ke pīchhe dauṛtā hūṅ, maiṅ dauṛūṅ gā, aur ḍhūṅḍhūṅ gā.
